Fat Tuesday brings business to Gulf Coast area

Posted on February 21st, 2012 No Comments

Although New Orleans is the Mardi Gras headquarters, it is celebrated throughout the west coast from Texas to Florida. This means that many tourists will visit the area and business will increase tremendously for week.

Officials in Mobile estimate that nearly one million people will travel to the area in order to celebrate the Mardi Gras season. Mobile claims to be where Fat Tuesday began back in the 1700s.

According to the Washington Post, when tourists  travel to the area,  they will spend money on hotels, food, stores, and other goods and the events stretch on for weeks. A study that was done in 2004 showed that nearly $225 million was made in the Mobile area during the Mardi Gras season.

The events have also become more popular since then and probably have a higher economic impact now. The state of Florida also celebrates Mardi Gras and many cities offers a more laid back version of the celebration.

The Clearwater personal injury lawyers are hoping that you and your family have an exciting and safe Mardi Gras celebration.

Texting while driving ban worked on in Florida

Posted on February 14th, 2012 No Comments

Florida lawmakers are still discussing whether or not texting while driving should be banned by all drivers, but it has been a somewhat controversial topic because some lawmakers feel that it will be a way for government to intrude on the lives of Americans.

“There are already laws on the books that make it illegal to drive unsafely,” said Jim Harper, director of information policy studies for the libertarian Cato Institute. Florida has a “reckless driving” law.

Others, especially those who have been injured by drivers that were distracted by their cell phones. A Senate Bill to outlaw texting and driving is currently waiting on its third vote but has already gone through three committees. The version that is in the House has not yet gone anywhere.

If you or a loved one has been injured as a result of a distracted driver, you need experienced representation on your side to help you through this time. Contact the Clearwater auto accident lawyers of Tragos & Sartes, P.L, by calling 727-441-9030.
